Shawn teaches alongside Jerry Crowl and the Prime Defense instructor team. Jerry is a USCCA-certified instructor and also brings experience as a veteran, reserve deputy and Range Safety Officer. Having multiple instructors in the classroom and at the range gives students more individual guidance throughout the day.

Michigan CPL Classes in Macomb County

Prime Defense offers CPL classes in Macomb County from our dedicated classroom at 51261 Milano Drive in Macomb Township. The classroom is located in the front office of L&M Tool Company, and signs are placed outside on class mornings.

After the classroom portion, students travel to the offsite range to complete live-fire training. Visit our Macomb Township page for complete classroom, parking and arrival information.

After Your Class: Applying Anywhere in Michigan

Prime Defense’s Michigan CPL training is open to students from anywhere in the state. Your signed course certificate can be used for a Michigan Concealed Pistol License application in all 83 Michigan counties.

After class, submit your application to the county clerk in the county where you live. Application, payment, appointment and fingerprinting procedures may vary by county, so review the official Michigan State Police instructions and your county clerk’s current requirements before applying.

Michigan CPL Class Questions

These are the questions students ask most often before registering.

Class Basics

The CPL class is a one-day, eight-hour course with five hours of classroom instruction and three hours of range instruction. Classes begin promptly at 8:00 AM and typically conclude around 5:00 PM.

Prime Defense allows students age 18 and older to complete the course. However, Michigan applicants must be at least 21 years old to obtain a CPL.

No. The class is designed for brand-new and experienced students. Our instructors provide additional guidance when a student is new to firearms.

Registration includes classroom materials, your certificate, range and target fees, a loaner firearm and loaner eye and ear protection when needed, plus pizza, drinks and snacks. Students purchase one box of ammunition at the range.

Firearms and Live-Fire Training

No. Prime Defense can provide a loaner firearm, along with loaner eye and ear protection, at no additional charge.

Yes. However, no firearms or ammunition are permitted in the classroom. Keep your firearm secured in your vehicle until the live-fire portion begins.

No. The range requires every student to purchase one box of ammunition at the range on class day.

The live-fire portion takes place at an offsite range at the end of the day. Students must provide their own transportation to the range.

Registration and Policies

All sales are final. One reschedule is permitted with more than 48 hours’ notice. Changes made within 48 hours require a $40 rescheduling fee, and no-call/no-shows forfeit the tuition.

Yes. When two students register in the same transaction, a $30 discount is automatically applied at checkout.

Michigan applicants must meet the state’s current age, residency, training and eligibility requirements. Criminal history and certain court orders can affect eligibility. Review the complete Michigan State Police CPL requirements before registering or applying.

Michigan allows a renewal application to be submitted up to one year after the current CPL expires. If more than one year has passed, review the Michigan State Police renewal information and contact your county clerk because you may need to apply as a new applicant and meet the current requirements.

Yes. The course satisfies Michigan’s CPL training requirements, and the certificate may be used when applying through your county of residence anywhere in Michigan.
