Shawn Crowl
Shawn Crowl is the owner and lead instructor of Prime Defense Firearms Training LLC in Macomb Township, Michigan. His interest in firearms began at a young age and developed into a long-term commitment to training, education and responsible firearm ownership.
Shawn earned his instructor ratings through the USCCA and leads Prime Defense classes with a straightforward, patient approach. His goal is to make complex topics—firearm safety, Michigan CPL law, defensive decision-making and responsible concealed carry—clear and practical for students at every experience level.

Teaching Approach
Shawn focuses on creating a low-pressure learning environment where new shooters can ask questions without feeling rushed or intimidated. Students are encouraged to understand not only how to complete the course requirements, but why safe handling, sound judgment and continued practice matter after class.

Jerry Crowl
Jerry Crowl brings decades of firearms and public-service experience to the Prime Defense instructor team. He grew up around shooting sports, later served in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Ordnanceman, and went on to serve in fire and EMS, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and as a reserve deputy working in a sheriff’s marine division.
That background gives Jerry a broad perspective on safety, emergency response, range operations and responsible firearm use. He teaches alongside Shawn and the Prime Defense team in the classroom and during live-fire training.

Our Michigan firearms instructors are based at Prime Defense Firearms Training, 51261 Milano Drive in Macomb Township, and serve students throughout Macomb County, Metro Detroit and Southeast Michigan. CPL classroom training is conducted at our dedicated classroom, with live-fire training completed offsite when required.
