Your One-Day St. Clair County CPL Class
The course includes five hours of classroom instruction followed by three hours of live-fire training. After the classroom portion, students travel to an offsite indoor range approximately 30 minutes from the classroom.
Classroom Training
First, learn firearm safety, responsible carry, situational awareness, conflict avoidance and Michigan self-defense law.
Live-Fire Instruction
Next, complete the range portion with hands-on coaching from multiple instructors.
Certificate of Completion
After successfully completing both portions, receive the signed training certificate needed for your county application.
Class begins at 8:00 AM sharp. Please arrive 10–15 minutes early. The course normally concludes around 5:00 PM, so plan for the full day.
Our training covers the subjects required under MCL 28.425j, including at least five hours of classroom instruction and at least three hours of firing-range instruction.

DO NOT BRING AMMUNITION TO CLASS. The range requires students to purchase the ammunition used during class onsite. Firearms and ammunition are not permitted inside the classroom. If you use your own firearm, keep it unloaded and secured inside your vehicle until you arrive at the range.
Directions From St. Clair County to Your CPL Classroom
Your St. Clair County CPL class begins at 51261 Milano Drive, Macomb Township, MI 48042. The classroom is inside the front office of L&M Tool Company. Classroom instruction is not held in St. Clair County.
From Port Huron, Fort Gratiot, Marysville and the northern part of St. Clair County: I-94 West is the main corridor toward Macomb County. A common approach is to leave I-94 near the 26 Mile Road area, continue west on 26 Mile Road and use Romeo Plank Road and the local Macomb Township road network to reach Milano Drive. Your navigation app may adjust the final local approach based on traffic.
From St. Clair, Marine City, Algonac and the river communities: M-29 is the primary north-south route along the St. Clair River and Anchor Bay. Depending on your starting point, navigation may route you toward I-94 or west through the 23 Mile Road corridor before continuing into Macomb Township.
From Richmond and the western side of St. Clair County: M-19 and the I-94 / 26 Mile Road corridors provide common access toward Macomb Township. Check your route before leaving so you can account for construction and morning traffic.
Aim to arrive between 7:45 and 7:50 AM. Class starts at 8:00 AM sharp. When you reach the property, follow the class signs to the front office. Our Macomb Township classroom page has additional parking and arrival details.
After classroom instruction, students drive to the offsite indoor range approximately 30 minutes away. We provide complete range directions during class, but students must arrange their own transportation.
How St. Clair County Residents Apply for a Michigan CPL
St. Clair County residents apply through the St. Clair County Clerk after completing the required training. The Clerk’s CPL office is located at 201 McMorran Blvd, Suite 1100, Port Huron, MI.

New applicants must complete fingerprinting at an authorized LiveScan location within 45 days after appearing at the Clerk’s Office.

No. The range requires students to purchase the ammunition used during class onsite. Bring payment for one box of ammunition.

Is the range lead-free?
No. We do not use a lead-free range.
Applications and Class Policies
Will I receive my CPL during class?
No. You receive a signed training certificate after successful completion. Then use that certificate when applying through the county clerk where you reside.
Where do St. Clair County residents apply?
St. Clair County residents apply through the St. Clair County Clerk. New applicants may begin the process online, but they still must appear in person at the Clerk’s Office with the required identification and original training certificate.
What are the requirements for a Michigan CPL?
Applicants must meet age, residency, training and other state and federal requirements. Review the complete Michigan State Police eligibility requirements before registering.
Can I qualify with a felony conviction or pending felony charge?
Michigan State Police lists felony convictions and pending felony charges as disqualifying conditions. If you have questions about your record, confirm your eligibility before paying for training.
What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy?
All class sales are final. One reschedule is permitted with more than 48 hours’ notice. Requests made within 48 hours of class carry a $40 rescheduling fee. No-call/no-show registrations forfeit the tuition.
CPL Renewals and Expired Licenses
What if my CPL has expired?
Michigan generally treats an application as a renewal only when the previous CPL has not been expired for more than one year. If your license has been expired longer, review the current Michigan State Police requirements before choosing your next course.
What training is required for renewal?
Renewal applicants certify at least three hours of review and at least one hour of firing-range time. Both must occur within the six months immediately before the renewal application.
Does Prime Defense offer a renewal class?
Yes. Our live Michigan CPL renewal class through Zoom provides an instructor-led three-hour review. Range time remains a separate requirement.
